uPVC and the cold

This time of year, locksmiths get a lot of calls about uPVC style doors that won’t lock. This is fairly common, and is simply because the door, which wasn’t perfectly adjusted to begin with, has shrunk enough that the mechanism won’t throw fully. A toe-and-heel job is required, and the issue goes away.

Don’t force the mechanism repeatedly, or you risk shearing one of the cogs inside, which could then lead to an expensive replacement for the strip and locking parts. (But take real care if someone tries to sell you a whole new door! They are probably being lazy, or trying to up-sell you. Give us a call instead!)
